What is ESD flooring?
ESD flooring is a grounded, static dissipative flooring or conductive floor covering having an electrical resistance between 2.5 x 104 to 1.0 x 109 Ohms. It is commonly used to prevent and remove static electric charges from personnel in spaces where sophisticated electronics systems are operated, manufactured, assembled or repaired.
What is the difference between antistatic or low kV flooring and ESD flooring?
Anti static flooring (commonly referred to as low kV) is an entry level version of static control flooring that is designed to prevent excessive static charge generation/buildup, but that is not necessarily designed to remove static charges. Static dissipative and conductive flooring (both also known as ESD) provide an advanced, higher level of static control by removing static charges.
Are all StaticSmart® products anti static flooring or low kV?
Yes. All StaticSmart flooring products are antistatic (also known as low kV).
What is the difference between static dissipative carpet and conductive flooring?
Static dissipative tile and conductive flooring (both known as ESD) are versions of static control flooring that are designed to remove static charges. However, conductive flooring has a lower electrical resistance and removes static charges at a faster rate than static dissipative carpet, which makes it the preferred choice for static control flooring applications.
Why should I consider installing antistatic or ESD flooring in my facility?
Antistatic flooring should be installed in high traffic/high use networked environments to minimize nuisance static and to provide additional protection against static damage. ESD flooring should be installed anywhere the threat of uncontrolled static electricity buildup and discharge is a concern and could jeopardize the performance and operation of electronics systems or the handling, assembly and repair of electronics.
What are the different levels of static control flooring protection and which level do I need for my facility?
